Conor McGregor makes his long-awaited return in UFC 246. This fight will be the first fight since Conor lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov back in UFC 229. Despite all the controversies surrounding Conor outside the octagon, the fans are expecting nothing but a spectacular finish from the former two-division champion. And rightfully so.

Conor McGregor is one of the best fighters in the early rounds and his record indicates the same. He has a ton of finishes in the first two rounds. When you are talking about the finishes of Conor McGregor, it’s hard not to mention when Conor knocked out Jose Aldo to become the featherweight champion. And who can forget the incredible performance of Conor McGregor against Eddie Alvarez?

Can Donald Cerrone Ruin the Return of Conor McGregor

If Conor wins it will be in the early rounds and if Cerrone wins it will be in the later rounds. This has been the common notion going into the fight. And it’s very likely that we might see one of these two scenarios. Cowboy will have to weather the storm that is Conor going to bring in the first and second rounds. Donald Cerrone arguably won the first round against Tony Ferguson and had a pretty even second round until the final seconds. Hence he can deal with early pressure and at welterweight, we will see a better version of Cowboy.

However, Cowboy will have to use his ground game against Conor. Though Conor can defend some of the takedowns in the early rounds, the takedown attempts and the leg kicks by Cerrone will upset the rhythm of Conor for sure. However, assuming that Conor will be an easy target in the later rounds is baseless. After all, he won the fourth round against Nate Diaz in the rematch. If Cowboy does not catch Conor with his lethal head kick or one of his submissions he better be ready for a 5 round war.
