Dana White Reveals Who’s Next For Kamaru Usman

UFC President Dana White spoke at the post-fight press conference and shared his views on Kamaru Usman with the media. White touched upon several topics via YouTube as the curtains closed in on UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi. The preliminary event that took place on Yas Fight Island was a highly anticipated spectacle by both fans and media.

Dana White aired his thoughts on the massively talked about main event Welterweight title fight booking. Kamaru Usman was victorious in his venture against Maimi’s Jorge Masvidal. The fight played out largely as expected with a thorough grappling clinic by ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

The long-term boss of the promotion is no stranger to setting up fan-friendly bouts. As a result, he went on to all but confirm the next opponent that will square off against the Welterweight champion.

Kamaru Usman has already faced a gauntlet of killers in the 170-pound division. Ever since winning the belt, he has faced stiff opposition that offered varied looks. He’s undefeated in the UFC and on a monstrous 16 fight win streak.

“I think Gilbert Burns and Kamaru Usman is going to be a really, really good fight. A really good fight,” said Dana White.

The decision to line up ‘Durinho’ Burns for the strap comes as no surprise to the MMA world. He is ranked as the number one contender in the 170-pound weight class. Additionally, he was the original booking to scrap at UFC 251 before testing positive for COVID-19.

The Brazilian fighter was quick to express his anticipation to face-off against his friend and teammate, Usman. The built-in narrative of former training partners has long been a selling point in fight promotion. Moreover, both fighters are elite in different aspects of the ground game, thus offering a compelling match-up.

As the curtain closes down on UFC 251, it is clear that the UFC has a built-in formula to put on fights. In light of their recent success, the company will be positively inclined to stage more events on the Fight Island. The UFC has once again managed to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to combat sports.
