“Sean O’Malley’s Trying To Get Attention”- Petr Yan

UFC Bantamweight Petr Yan spoke to the media at a scrum via MMA Junkie ahead of his 135-pound title fight at UFC 251. ‘No Mercy’ is slated to face off against former featherweight king Jose Aldo for the vacant bantamweight strap. The title was up for grabs after Henry Cejudo announced his surprise retirement from the sport.

The Russian fighter has become a tyrant in the division, with brutal finishes over big Bantamweight names. He went on a brisk rise to the top and solidified himself to attain a prime spot to contend for the gold strap. Along the way to the top, Yan has never back down from trash-talking divisional rivals.

Petr Yan: “I never choose my opponents”

Petr Yan has managed to put the 135-pound division on notice, and in doing so he’s squared off against some of the best divisional talents. Surging prospect Sean O’Malley and Yan have been at odds with each other since they began attaining acclaim. ‘No Mercy’ had choice words for his divisional rival when speaking to the media.

“I don’t care about Sean O’Malley you know, he’s talked a lot, and he’s not even in the top 10. I know why he’s doing that, he’s [Sean O’Malley] trying to get attention.”

He also went on to express a desire to scrap against ‘Sugar’ Sean on the first opportunity he gets. The budding rivalry between the two has added yet another layer of excitement to the bustling bantamweight division.

“I never choose my opponents, if they give me Sean O’Malley I’ll fight him.”

Sean O’Malley is one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster, despite being a relative newcomer. Not to mention, he was absent from the cage due to a potential doping violation that sidelined him. However, these incidents have done little in the way of slowing down the 25-year-old.

Petr Yan has been at the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to Sean O’Malley. He expressed his distaste for the loud and flaring young star. The potential fight has the MMA world excited. However, Petr Yan has a tall task ahead of him as he prepares to actualize his championship dream on the beaches of Abu Dhabi at UFC 251.
