UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo has defended his gold strap for the second time and made UFC history in the process. ‘Deus de Guerra’ came out on top over challenger Brandon Moreno after the judges’ scorecards read a majority draw. Additionally, he etched the fastest turnaround in UFC championship history after coming back in just a matter of 21 days.
He last competed back at UFC 255 and ensured that he’ll likely snag the ‘Fighter of the Year’ for 2020. The Brazilian champion has competed in four title fights in one calendar year and his performances have only gotten better. However, he’s certainly met a meaningful adversary in Brandon Moreno and they will surely run things back.

Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno threw heavy leather right from the get-go and they could be set for the ‘Fight of the Year’ tag. Both the athletes had moments of success in different realms however, a point deduction for Figueiredo led to the draw. The deduction was spurred on through a couple of fouls like eye-pokes and low blows.

Following the win, the 21-1 championship fighter spoke to Joe Rogan and revealed that he suffered an unfortunate pre-fight hindrance. Figueiredo explained that he was in the hospital till 2 in the morning due to stomach issues. Chiefly, the general speculation was that his quick turnaround from UFC 255 to UFC 256 was the cause of his woes.
Moreover, UFC President Dana White confirmed the news that ‘Deus de Guerra’ had broken moments earlier. It’s highly likely that Figueiredo’s trip to the hospital at the eleventh hour could have caused the late-round fatigue. He absorbed heavy damage in the fourth round, and it was possible that the ‘Assassin Baby’ could snag an upset win.

The divisional champion has a series of game challengers chomping at the bit for an opportunity to scrap. What’s more, Figueiredo’s next adversary is lined up already, and a rematch against Moreno is a foregone conclusion.
