Leading up to UFC 246, there were a lot of speculations surrounding the next opponent of Conor McGregor if he gets past Donald Cerrone. Conor McGregor stepped into the octagon at UFC 246 against Donald Cerrone. Conor smoked Cowboy in 40 seconds. And after his victorious return, Conor has some huge matchups for him at the lightweight and welterweight division.
If Conor decides to compete at the lightweight division, the rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov would be one of the biggest fights in UFC history. But of course, Khabib will have to get past Tony Ferguson first, which is not an easy task for anyone in the lightweight division.
At the welterweight division, Conor has the BMF title fight with Jorge Masvidal and the welterweight title fight with Kamaru Usman. Though Conor has stated that the fight with Masvidal will be a more intriguing one he is certainly looking to make history by winning the welterweight title. But can Conor beat one of the best welterweights in UFC history? Conor’s ground game has been always exposed by the elite level of grapplers such as Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov. And Usman is one of the best wrestlers in UFC. He dominated Tyron Woodley with ease for five rounds to become the champion. Keeping that in mind does Conor has an answer to Usman’s wrestling.

According to MMA veteran, Frank Shamrock Conor can beat Usman inside the octagon. He believes that he has seen many holes in Usman’s game on which Conor will be able to capitalize. Between Khabib and Usman, it would be a tough call to decide which will be an easier fight for Conor. In fact, both the fights are very tough for Conor. Khabib dominated Conor until he got the submission win. And Usman can dominate Conor on the ground too even if we consider the solid takedown defense Conor has. Usman will be a bigger guy compared to Khabib. He is insanely durable and his striking is no joke either as we saw in Covington’s fight.
However, Conor McGregor has made a career proving people wrong. When the odds are against him he shines the brightest and creates magic inside the octagon. It would be intriguing to see whether a fully focused Conor can overcome the lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov or the welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman.
