In a long-anticipated fight, Cris Cyborg defended her UFC featherweight title against the bantamweight UFC champion, Amanda Nunes. History was made that night as Nunes got the job done under one minute and became the first women two-division champion. With that loss, the undefeated streak of Cyborg, which lasted more than a decade came to an end.

However, even after a career-defining loss Cyborg was not feeling bad. After defeating Julia Budd at Bellator 238, Cris Cyborg looked back at her loss against Nunes during the post-fight press conference and stated:

“When I lost that title, I got out of the cage, I was not feeling sad. I’m speaking real. I feel like something got off my back. I walk over there I did an interview, I know all the walls have the writings, I remembered every single part. I did the interview, and I was not sad. I feel like everything happens for a reason. If I not lost that belt that day, I was not here now champion in Bellator. Here I’m happy. There I was not happy. I was working, I feel I was a slave, and I was not happy. Here I’m happy, something I choose to be.”

Cris Cyborg became the Bellator women’s featherweight champion by beating Julia Budd at Bellator 238. She made history by becoming the only athlete to hold the title in UFC, Invicta, Strike Force, and Bellator. Cyborg expressed gratitude to have this unique achievement and continued: 

“When I came here and heard I was going to fight at The Forum, I said God is amazing,” Cyborg stated. “I lost my belt here, I [came] back here and fight, I got a title. I worked really hard for this fight. I always work hard and I feel happy to have the opportunity and make history. This is going to be the only fighter to get four titles.”

After Cyborg was released from UFC, fans lost the opportunity to witness the rematch between Cyborg and Nunes. However, Cris Cyborg seems excited to see what’s ahead of her in her new home, Bellator.

“I’m really happy to work with Bellator, This is my new home. A new era. I don’t have any problems around. The boss wants to work with the fighters. I don’t have any problems. Just very thankful to be here working for Bellator.”
