Khabib Nurmagomedov defended the lightweight title against Conor McGregor back in UFC 229. It’s fair to say that Khabib dominated Conor throughout the fight until he got the submission victory in the 4th round.

However, Conor McGregor was coming into that fight after long lay off from the sport. Conor has admitted that he made mistakes during training camp that he should not have done. And after his impressive performance against Donald Cerrone fans can not help but think whether a fully focused Conor can beat arguably the greatest lightweight ever.

Dana White announced that if Khabib gets past Tony Ferguson then the rematch between Conor and Khabib is next. Interestingly, Khabib’s manager even claimed that Khabib is being offered 100 million dollars to fight Conor McGregor in Saudi Arabia.

Well, in a recent interview when asked about the rematch with Conor for 100 million dollars, Khabib laughed and said:

“Why do I need that kind of money. There are so many organizations for example, there is not only football for the blind, there are Sambo and other sports. Let [UFC] give it to them, if they don’t know what to do with the money. But giving me $100 million for me to beat up that idiot again? I don’t think it’s rational.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov is more concerned with his upcoming fight with Tony Ferguson over the rematch speculations with Conor McGregor. Khabib stated:

“I have a fight on April 18 – a very serious fight,” he said. “For the past month and a half, I’ve been consistently training day and night. I’ve gotten myself in good shape to where I’m supposed to be 70 days before a fight. I feel great.

Even leading to the fight between Donald Cerrone and Conor McGregor, Khabib made it clear that a win over Cerrone would not make Conor worthy for a title rematch. He called Cerrone’s record unimpressive especially in his last few fights and he believes a fight with him should not decide the number one title contender for the lightweight title.

Besides Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje is a strong contender for the lightweight title. However, Dana White has made up his mind to give Conor the title shot instead of Justin. It would be intriguing to see whether Khabib Nurmagomedov entertains the rematch with Conor McGregor if he gets past with Tony Ferguson at UFC 247.
