Although UFC Mexico card was not stacked with well-established fighters, it has delivered more than expectations. We saw two knockouts in the prelims and we started the main card with a highlight reel knock out.

The main card started with a fight between Steven Peterson and Martin Bravo in the UFC featherweight division. Peterson had the advantage in experience coming into this fight with a record of 17 wins and 9 losses. However, he had two consecutive losses before this fight and desperately needed a win here in Mexico city. His opponent Martin Bravo was in a similar scenario since he lost two of his last two fights as well.

Both fighters are well rounded and able to finish the fight on the ground and with striking as well. However, Peterson is a better striker than Bravo and he just proved the same in UFC Mexico.

The first round sarted with both the fighters feeling each other out and getting settled to the high altitude of the venue, which would have played a major role if the fight would have gone to the later rounds. The first round was a close one with a good back and forth between the two fighters. However, the knock out in the second round is one highlight for the ages.

Both the fighters committed to the spinning back fist. However, Steven peterson landed hard and clean. Although, Bravo was the first one to hit the back fist, there was not much power and precision in that strike.

After the fight, Peterson said:

“I needed to finish. The first round was a feeling out period. But I did not want to give him the round. I did not want to go to the judges for the takedowns.”
