UFC Vegas 55 saw former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm and bantamweight #5 Ketlen Vieira battle for a shot at the title currently held by UFC standout Julianna Peña. However, the fight did not go as per fans’ expectations and the result certainly did not.

The bout was a clinch-heavy showdown and Holm looked a little slow from the get-go, as expected of an athlete who has entered the 40-year-age space.

‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ showed heart in the fight and was able to get momentum on her side from round 1. She even escaped a near-decisive rear-naked choke in round 2. Although Holm was able to knock down ‘Fenomeno’ in round 4, the judges awarded Vieira a split decision win after five rounds.

Fans were particularly unhappy with the decision from the judges at UFC Vegas 55 and made it known via Twitter.

A reporter didn’t welcome Holm’s split decision loss after scoring it in her favor himself.

Longtime MMA reporter Aaron Bronsteter shared some amazing insights into the matter which shows what kind of fighter Holm is and the legacy she has built for herself in the MMA space.

On the other end, Vieira has opened up the gates for a lot more opportunities.

The Brazilian bantamweight contender has now won two back-to-back fights against former UFC women’s bantamweight champions. The first win was against Miesha Tate at UFC Fight Night 198 and the second was against Holm tonight at UFC Vegas 55.

These two high-profile wins have no doubt cemented her name as a top contender in the bantamweight division. When the updated rankings come out, ‘Fenomeno’ can expect a significant jump and could potentially enter title fight conversations.

However, she might have to wait to get her hands on Julianna Peña or even Amanda Nunes, as the duo will rematch only after the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter, where they are serving as coaches.
