Brazilian Fans’ “Absolutely Classless” Act During Glover Teixeira’s Retirement Erupts Fans To Say “Colby Was Right”

UFC 283 saw Jamahal Hill crowned the Light Heavyweight champion after a dominant performance against veteran Glover Teixeira. The main event fight eventually won the fight of the night giving both fighters a bonus of 50,000$. With Hill’s win, he is now the fourth consecutive fighter to hold the title since 2020 September.

While the fight was definitely a great watch, what left people shocked was the crowd in the arena. After the fight concluded, the stands were completely empty and both the fighters had to give their interviews to an almost empty crowd. Fans online were quick to notice and did not hold back in calling out the local crowd. With Teixeira being a Brazilian legend, many found it disappointing that his countrymen were not present for his retirement speech.

Brazilian fans trolled online for disappearing after Glover Teixeira’s fight

Fans on social media bashed the Brazilian crowd for walking out before Teixeira went on the mic. After leaving his heart out in the octagon, many found it disrespectful that he had to retire in front of an almost empty arena.

Some of the comments on social media were quite straightforward without trying to hide their disappointment.

“And he retired in an empty arena, classy Brazilian fans as usual”

“Crowd was kinda buns lol never seen an arena empty out that quickly. Glover had to retire in front of arena staff and maybe 20 other people smh”

“Too bad the Brazilian “fans” left early to miss this smh”

One fan posed a question for Brazilians about their respect towards Teixeira

“Brazil where’s your respect for your countryman??? He had to retire in front of hardly any fans. Arena was like 99% empty . Glover deserved more loyalty and respect than that.”

A couple of the comments thanked and paid respect to the 43 year old while dissing the Brazilian crowd.

“Brazilian fans don’t deserve Glover …. Thank you sir for the years of entertainment”

“Respect for him. Lost respect for the Brazilian fans. Absolutely classless”

A few pointed out Colby Covington’s remark on Brazilians a few years back, stating he was right in insulting them.

“Colby was right about Brazil”

“Colby was right. Glover is a legend and his own crowd walked out on him…”

One fan left a cheeky remark comparing the empty stands to the UFC apex

After a career spanning over two decades, Glover Teixeira finally called it a day at UFC 283. Many would believe that after achieving the highest accolade an MMA fighter could dream of by winning the Light Heavyweight title in UFC 267, he had nothing left to prove anymore. The 43-year-old completely laid it all out in his last two fights and had the best opportunity to retire in front of the home crowd.

While speaking to Daniel Cormier in the octagon interview, Teixeira conceded that he was too tough for his own good while laying down his gloves. He even called it an honour to be able to retire on the same night as Shogun Rua, another legend.

With a career that involved fighting at the highest level for such a long period of time, it is understandable that fans were disappointed at the manner in which the local crowd disappeared after the fight. Although the arena might have emptied out, Glover Teixeira’s illustrious career means that fans will continue to love him and respect him as a legend of the sport.
