Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal – Chael Sonnen Wants a Blockbuster Match-Up for the BMF Title

Conor McGregor recently took to Twitter signaling a move up to the 170 lbs division of the UFC upon his return to competition. Fans have started to hypothesize a potential fight between him and Kamaru Usman. However, former UFC star, Chael Sonnen believes a fight against Jorge Masvidal is what Conor McGregor should have once he is set to return.
Masvidal captured the UFC’s BMF belt in 2020 when he stopped Nate Diaz. Sonnen believes that the belt should be defended as well. Masvidal has fought twice since, losing both outings against Kamaru Usman. However, the belt wasn’t on the line on either occasion. ‘The Bad Guy’ believes he needs to put that on the line and McGregor is the most fitting challenger.

“Don’t forget. Masvidal’s got a title right? He is the BMF champion and so many people are choosing to erase that. I was at Madison Square Garden. I watched the rock put that around his waist in front of a sold-out audience. That’s a real belt,” said Sonnen.
“I would be demanding if I was Kamaru Usman, I would not have walked out there and put my belt up unless he puts his belt up. What kind of title do you have?” he added further.
“So he becomes the champion, he’s gonna be guaranteed to die. The first-ever champion. Look, if I’m a competitor, I’m going after that thing,” Sonnen added further.

Sonnen believes McGregor had been out of the sport for too long. The likes of Poirier had made the most out of that time and gotten ahead of him.
“First off, you’re making the title fight, you put the BMF strap up and Conor certainly qualifies for that. You get this Poirier talk out of your mouth. It wasn’t it wasn’t the world’s most fun. The first second or third time that it happened. There’s a lot of other big options that make more sense. competitively Dustin Poirier at this point in his career, he just too good,” Sonnen said on the topic.
