Leon Edwards, the UFC champion, was recently seen speaking with Michael Bisping. Edwards talked about a variety of subjects, including defeating Kamaru Usman for the UFC championship and getting ready to defend it in London. Edwards also discussed his upcoming fights and the opponent he will face next. As the discussion went on, Bisping inquired about Edwards’ opinion of prospective fights with Jorge Masvidal. The interviewer was curious to know what came to Edward’s mind about Masvidal. With almost nothing positive to say about the American welterweight fighter, Edward gave the predictable answer.

Leon Edwards about Jorge Masvidal

Rocky’s answer to the question wasI like..I don’t like it that much that a room for him to win so I can fight him you know but this keeps losing so it’s hard to make the fight make sense you know. Like I even said if you went out there for like in let’s say like December January like Gilbert or somebody beat one of them. Then I’ll.. I’ll fight you in March and then it was when the summer or something you know mean let him rest his hands a bit. Then I thought you might as well, it didn’t..it didn’t even do that um well we’ll see”. A fight between them, according to the English MMA fighter, would not make any sense at this time. He is, however, open to any circumstance that might come up in the future.

The bitter relationship between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal

Gamebred’s fighting career took a hit after losing his last three fights. At UFC 251, he competed against Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight championship. Gilbert Burns, who had been the scheduled opponent, was substituted by Masvidal after a positive COVID-19 test. Unfortunately, the judges unanimously decided that he had lost the bout. Even Gamebred’s rematch with Kamaru Usman at UFC 261 was not lucky for him. This time, he was knocked out in round two of the bout. After his two defeats, Masvidal was scheduled to face Leon Edwards at UFC 269 in a fight.

Masvidal’s string of failures prompted Edwards to make this comment during the interview. However, since 2019, their relationship has remained tense. Masvidal struck Rocky with an unwarranted three-punch combo during a bout between him and Edwards that occurred behind the stage at a UFC Fight Night event. Since the incident, the two have never spoken well of one another. Fans will have to wait to see if they can soon watch the two compete in an octagon.
