“I Keep That Special” – Tony Ferguson on His Relationship With TUF Coach Brock Lesnar

The relationship that athletes share with their coaches is always special. They are an essential part of a fighter’s success, and in most cases, they build a fighter up from scratch. Therefore, when Tony Ferguson revealed that he still talked to his Ultimate Fighter coach, Brock Lesnar, it didn’t surprise many people.

Ferguson got his big break when Lesnar selected him as his third pick in the Ultimate Fighter. He went on to win the whole tournament and turn a lot of heads while he was at it. Ferguson now has an amazing record of 25-5 and has blossomed into one of the best fighters in the sport.

He appeared on the YouTube show Submission Radio ahead of his fight against Beneil Dariush at UFC 262. ‘El Cucuy’ talked about many things like Nate Diaz, his opponent Dariush, and his TUF coach Brock Lesnar.

The reporter was considerably surprised when Ferguson revealed that he still talks to Lesnar. He asked Ferguson again if he still talks to him. “Yeah, as my coach, man,” Ferguson answered.

However, Ferguson showed his frustration with other lightweights and said that he didn’t like to drop names.

“Well, you walk around like a Ronin, and you do all this other shit. I’m like fuck you. Pay me just because I don’t fucking blurt out everybody’s names until I can tell you everybody I know and who I’m associated with? Nah, dawg, I keep that special. I bring it when I need to,” he added.

One of the most in-form fighters, Ferguson was on an incredible win-streak of 12 fights. He was on the cusp of a title shot when he was set to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title. However, it all went south as Khabib couldn’t travel due to the COVID travel restrictions, and Justin Gaethje stepped in.

This wasn’t good for Tony as he got completely outclassed by Justin and lost the fight via TKO. After a few months, he fought another rising star in Charles Oliveira and lost that fight via decision. Oliveira is now fighting for the lightweight title against Michael Chandler.

It’s not all gloomy for Ferguson, however, becauss if he wins this fight against Dariush, he’ll be back in the conversation for a title. So, don’t count him out yet.
