‘I Know the Drunken Fist’-Israel Adesanya Mocks Paulo Costa Again Ahead of UFC 259

UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, will fight Jan Blachowicz this weekend at UFC 259. The flashy striker will look to create history by becoming the fifth simultaneous two-division champions in the history of the UFC. ‘Stylebender’ last fought at UFC 253, where he defeated Paulo Costa by TKO in the second round.

‘Borrachinha’ was schooled at the main event of UFC 253 as the flair, speed, and technique of Adesanya proved to be too much for him. But that hasn’t stopped the Brazilian from making excuses. He recently revealed that he was drunk during the fight as he consumed wine due to sleep problems the night before the contest.

“I was kind of drunk [when] I fought, maybe, on a hangover. I couldn’t sleep because of the [leg] cramps. Keep in mind that the fight happens at 9 a.m. [local time], we have to wake up at 5 to get ready, stretch, wrap the hands. The UFC told us to wake up at 5 in the morning to go to the arena to fight. I hadn’t slept until 2:30,” said Costa in Portuguese in a recent video. (h/t MiddleEasy)

Adesanya recently ripped Costa for those excuses, and in the UFC 259 Embedded Vlog series, he took another shot at his last opponent.

“We can drink some before the fight like Costa,” said Adesanya jokingly. “I can’t sleep! Oh no! I know the Drunken Fist!”

It’s true that the excuses from Costa have only added to his embarrassment. And Adesanya hasn’t let him go easily for those as he keeps taking shots at ‘The Eraser’.

For now, ‘Stylebender’ has his attention fixed on beating Jan Blachowicz and capturing the light-heavyweight belt. But, it’s easier said than done. Though Adesanya has a perfect record of 20-0 in MMA, he has never fought someone of Blachowicz’s size and power inside the Octagon. That can prove to be decisive on March 6.

Also, the 205lbs division champion possesses the wrestling pedigree to test the middleweight champion’s ground game. So, any outcome is possible and can’t be ruled out. However, supposed uncertainties and doubts about his upcoming fight haven’t stopped ‘Stylebender‘ from responding to comments from his previous fight.
