Dominick Cruz is one of the most eloquent and intelligent commentators the UFC has. Having multiple years of experience fighting and also having been a dominant world champion for many years, Cruz is one of the most trusted voices in the sport. Speaking to the media before his bout with Pedro Munhoz at UFC 269, Cruz had some brutally honest words for Daniel Cormier’s commentary.

He said, “When it comes to DC, I usually mute it. I love DC, he’s my friend, but to me from my experience, he doesn’t do the homework. He wants to get in and out, get the job done, make his money, and I think he cares about us, but it’s just different.

“He doesn’t do the preparation from my experience. He might now. I’m hoping he watches some film this time on me so that he knows what I’m doing, and why I’m doing it.” Later that day Cormier had a sit down with Cruz where they discussed Cruz’s statements.

‘DC’s problem with Cruz was that he took a private conversation public before addressing it with him first. To which Cruz replied, “I held you accountable. Accountability is love DC.” The two then further discussed if Cormier watches enough fight film before commentating on an event. The interview reached a point where Cruz asked Cormier to give his honest opinion of what he thinks of him as an analyst.

That’s when Cormier said, “I think you’re a fantastic analyst because you’re prepared, I think you enjoy the fights, and you love your job. I think you’re a fantastic analyst.” However, when Cruz then asked ‘DC’ what he doesn’t like about his commentary, Cormier had this to say, “I think you can be a bit dry.”

The climax of the interview was when Michael Bisping showed up to moderate the conversation. What ensued was a hilarious exchange of jokes, banter, and some frank talk. The interview ended on a fantastic note when Curz admitted that he appreciates DC as an analyst. The trio of veterans all shook hands and embraced.
