UFC 286 main event saw one of the most electrifying championship bouts in recent times. The fight lived up to the hype as Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman went back and forth all throughout the bout. The results of the fight saw Bruce Buffer announcing Leon Edwards as the winner of the bout. This marked Edward’s first title defense in his reign.

Competitors have already started lining up in the queue for his championship, already post his win. After UFC announced that a PPV will take place in Abu Dhabi in October, Islam Makhachev would want an opponent in his favorite arena. Hence, Makhachev has a message after Edwards’ win at UFC 286.

Islam Makhachev wasted no time in calling out the UFC welterweight champion. The Dagestani champion aims to become a double champion in the UFC and he has taken steps towards the very same.

Makhachev took to Twitter to call out Leon Edwards. The UFC lightweight champion said, “I want Leon next, October in Abu Dhabi”.

It is also important to note that Edwards is not looking for a fight immediately, as revealed in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. The UFC welterweight champion said that he is not looking for a fight against Colby Covington. Moreover, ‘Rocky’ said he would keep an eye on the next PPV event that involves Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal.

However, Leon Edwards will look to enjoy his first title defense and will see his welterweight crown attacked by other fighters.

The UFC commentating booth also broke out the news after the fight that Islam Makhachev wants to face Leon Edwards. Jon Anik read out the news that the promotion desires the fight to be held in Abu Dhabi.

Daniel Cormier seemed excited at the prospect of Makhachev going for the double championship. Only time will tell what happens as the UFC matchmakers have the final decision to make.
