The lightweight division of the UFC is stacked up at the moment. With so many top contenders on the surge, everybody is looking for their shot at the gold. The champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is yet to announce a clear decision on his fighting future. Dana White told The Schmo in the UFC 256 post-fight press conference that he will be meeting the Russian next month.

The UFC President said, “Yeah, I’ll meet with him next month. It actually all lines up perfectly. Conor’s gonna fight, that same week, with Poirier. We’re talking about Chandler fighting. This fight happened tonight. Then I meet with Khabib next month and we’ll figure out what’s going on.

Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his belt against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 and announced retirement at the post-fight interview. “The Eagle” lost his father due to coronavirus earlier this year. He said that he swore on his father’s grave about retiring and would only come back if his mother allows him to.

Nurmagomedov’s father’s dream was to see his son reach 30-0 as a professional. So, that might be a factor to lure the Russian back into competition.
