Jorge Masvidal will end his year-long hiatus at UFC 287 as he steps in to face Gilbert Burns. The UFC’s one and only BMF last entered the octagon in March 2022 against bitter rival Colby Covington. The best friends turned worst enemies story ended with Covington outwrestling Masvidal for five rounds and getting the win. ‘Gamebred’ suffered a devastating loss at the hands of his bitter rival and later got into legal troubles with him.

Recently, a fellow UFC welterweight pointed out something Masvidal did wrong in his fight against Covington. He claimed this mistake may have cost the former title challenger dearly in the grudge match.

Recently on Twitter, a fan pointed out how Masvidal looked much better in his short-notice fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 than against Colby Covington. UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad had an explanation for this.

According to Muhammad, Masvidal was more emotional during the Covington fight. Therefore, it drained him more compared to the Usman fight.

“Remember The Name” also said that emotion drains cardio “more than anything.” Covington has a reputation for his relentless pressure and unending stamina. He used both to implement his will as he wore out Masvidal round after round.

“He Keeps Losing”: Leon Edwards Expresses Disappointment in Jorge Masvidal

In Gilbert Burns, Masvidal has an opponent who is game to strike and grapple. “Street Jesus” even had a few strong words for his next opponent ahead of their clash in April.

In a recent video shared on his social media, Masvidal addressed Burns and gave him a preview of what he would do to him in their fight. The 38-year-old was cooking meat and used it to explain his plans for “Durinho.”

Masvidal said, “My brother gilbert, Love and respect. I think you’re a great fighter. But I’m gonna do you just like I did this meat, my brother. You gon’ get cooked April 8th. I’ll see you, everybody,”

Despite being on a three-fight skid, including the Covington loss, Masvidal seems confident ahead of his next bout. With a win over a top-ranked star like Burns, he could even secure a title fight next. If Leon Edwards successfully defends his title against Kamaru Usman in London, we might even see the ‘Gamebred’ vs. ‘Rocky’ grudge match.
