UFC welterweight star Khamzat Chimaev took to Instagram Live and sent out a chilling warning to the top dogs of the division. ‘Borz’ made it abundantly clear that he is looking to take over the weight class and stamp his authority. He called out the three top welterweights currently, namely Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, and Gilbert Burns.

With Linkin Park’s ‘Numb’ playing in the background, Chimaev’s warning was certainly impactful. The Swedish-Russian fighter has promised to ‘smash’ everyone in his way and isn’t afraid to call out his shots with conviction. He has already begun his ascent up the ladder and very soon he will probably get his wish to fight the very best at welterweight.

“Of course, I smash everybody. [Kamaru] Usman, Colby [Covington], [Gilbert] Burns. Everybody.”

Chimaev’s confidence is definitely a major part of his appeal and thus far, he has backed up his words in the cage. Ever since he signed with the UFC, he has been breaking records and he continues to be a force to be reckoned with. In fact, in four UFC fights, he has only absorbed a single significant strike; a record indicative of his dominance.

Chimaev last fought at UFC 267 where he pulverized number 11 ranked Li Jingliang and scored a submission victory. ‘Borz’ manhandled the Chinese fighter and carried him over to UFC President Dana White, who was sitting cage side, and submitting him. ‘The Leech’ has shown himself to be a valid contender, and he was well and truly dusted by Chimaev.

However, fans want to see him consolidate his efforts at welterweight before making a run at middleweight. Champion Kamaru Usman has already expressed an interest in Chimaev and it could be the mega-fight to watch out for in 2022-2023.
