The story of Michael Bisping in the UFC was full of ups and downs. The Manchester native lived his dream of becoming the UFC champion. However, his reign didn’t last long after Georges St-Pierre defeated him in 2017. The fight with GSP is something that Bisping would do over if he got the chance to do so.

Georges St-Pierre returned to action in 2017 after a long layoff of four years. There were a ton of questions about whether ring rust would affect him. In the buildup to the fight, he maintained that he may even be better than he was while he was ruling the welterweight division. Though he didn’t exactly dominate Bisping, he still defeated ‘The Count’ fair and square.

While answering questions of fans on Twitter, Bisping named the fight with GSP as the one that he would like to do all over again.

St-Pierre won the fight via a third-round rear-naked choke. He’d lock in the submission after rocking him with a right hook. While GSP won the fight, it wasn’t in the fashion that many expected him to. Bisping did a very good job of not staying down on the ground after the takedowns. He even landed several elbows off his back that led to steady bleeding from GSP’s face.

Bisping won the 185-pounds belt after knocking out Luke Rockhold at UFC 199. He made one successful defense of the belt when he avenged his loss to Dan Henderson. Following the win, his reign ended with the loss against St-Pierre.

The former Ultimate Fighter winner, Bisping attempted a quick turnaround after the loss. However, that plan did not go very well as he suffered a knockout defeat at the hands of Kelvin Gastelum. It was after this loss that Bisping hung his gloves.

Had the fight with GSP gone the other way, the Englishman would’ve retired earlier itself.

A Hall of Famer, Bisping currently works as a UFC analyst. He also has his own podcast ‘Believe You Me’. While he couldn’t rule over the division for a long time, the fact that he rose to the top despite recurring issues with his right eye goes a long way in showing the fighter he was.
