UFC 283: Deiveson Figueiredo’s Coach Henry Cejudo Publically Berated for Crying Foul at Herb Dean After He Awards Brandon Moreno the Flyweight Strap

The fight between Moreno and Figueiredo was intense from the get-go, with Moreno scoring a takedown within the first 20 seconds. But Figueiredo quickly regained control, using a guillotine to hit a reversal and get back on his feet. Both fighters were cautious in their approach, with Figueiredo sneaking in a front kick and Moreno connecting with his hands. However, after the end of the third round, the fight ended via doctor’s stoppage. Moreover, Brandon Moreno stood victorious, and that’s something Henry Cejudo wasn’t happy with. Cejudo’s tweet, post-fight, got a lot of criticism from fans.

In the second round, Figueiredo caught a kick and earned himself an early takedown. Although a few ground strikes landed, Moreno was able to scramble up to his feet without absorbing significant damage. Moreno attempted another takedown, but Figueiredo ended up on top. Moreno then shot in again but had to fight off a guillotine before finding himself in a top position for the remainder of the round.

The third round saw Moreno land a powerful left hook, thenceforth an eye poke. Despite the incident, the referee allowed the fight to continue. Moreno went after Figueiredo, who was protesting to the referee, and found himself in the top position again. Moreno controlled the round, keeping Figueiredo on his back until the bell. However, before the start of the fourth round, the doctor checks on Figueiredo’s eye, which was swollen shut. The official endorsed that the fight be stopped. In addition, Moreno was victorious as the undisputed UFC flyweight champion.

Moreno speaks about his issue with Cejudo

The fight between Moreno and Figueiredo was already filled with tension, given their previous encounters. However, the addition of Moreno’s history with Cejudo added an extra layer of drama to the bout. Moreover, Cejudo put fuel to the fire with his post-fight Tweet. Moreno appeared on The MMA Hour to address the situation and explain the difference between him working with Benavidez and Cejudo, preparing Figueiredo to fight Moreno.

Moreno stated, “I don’t have nothing to clear with him. I don’t hate the guy, I respect the guy. He said I’m a traitor, but I just want to say when I went with Joseph Benavidez, it was for necessity. When I did that I was alone, I didn’t have my team in Tijuana, my team in Arizona was training with other guys, and I was alone.

Moreno emphasized that his decision to train with Benavidez was a necessity and a professional move, driven by the need to provide for his family. He made it clear that his priority is his family, and that he doesn’t hold any ill-will towards Cejudo.
