‘Cupcake’ made her return to the octagon in July 2021 after a five-year hiatus. She emerged victorious in her comeback fight against Marion Reneau but suffered a loss in her next outing against Ketlen Vieira in November 2021. Determined to regain her spot at the top, Tate decided to drop down to the flyweight division in hopes of challenging for the 125-pound championship.

Tate announced via social media that she’s not discouraged by her loss, “Tonight wasn’t my night, congratulations to @laurenmurphymma and we continue to learn the lessons of life! I had the most UH-mazing dinner at my favorite restaurant @cheeseboatbk and met Mama Cheeseboat herself. I’m still blessed beyond measure win lose or draw! Thank you to all those who continue to love and support me regardless, you know who you are.

The fight was grueling and Tate took damage, particularly to her left eye, which was left badly swollen. Despite the setback, Tate remained in good spirits and released a statement via social media.
