The first UFC pay-per-view of 2022, UFC 270, recently took place, and it featured some great fights. Two massive title fights headlined the event and amazed UFC fans. However, the fighters’ fight night weights have also caused amazement among MMA fans.

The new UFC flyweight champion, Figueiredo, gained 19.2 pounds between Friday’s weigh-in and the fight night. The Brazilian stepped on the scale at 124 pounds and entered the cage at (143.2 lbs) i.e. a gain of 15.5 percent.

Compared to Figueiredo, the former champion, Brandon Moreno, gained 12.2 pounds. He entered the fight weighing in at 136.2 pounds, i.e. 9.8 percent more than his weight when he stepped on the scale on Friday.

Why Is There No UFC Event This Weekend?

The massive weight gain seemed to have worked in Figueiredo’s favor as he came out on top via a unanimous decision. However, weight gain did not prove to be successful for all the athletes.

The biggest gainer of the night was UFC bantamweight Cody Stamann. Having weighed in at 135.5, he gained 23.5 pounds and stepped inside the octagon at 159 pounds for his fight against Said Nurmagomedov. His 17.3 percent gain didn’t help him as he tapped out in round one.

Deiveson Figueiredo plans to stay with Fight Ready

Figueiredo switched his camp to Fight Ready in Arizona after the submission loss at the hands of Brandon Moreno. Joining the camp changed his fortunes as he defeated Moreno in the trilogy fight via a unanimous decision.

Now, the Brazilian doesn’t plan to leave this team. During the UFC 270 post-fight press conference, he clarified that.

Via a translator, he said, “This is a team that embraced me, that welcomed me, that took care of me. The only thing I want to do is go back home to grab my family, and to bring them to America… not only be focused on this sport, but to keep this belt.”

Figueiredo definitely looked calmer and much more calculated inside the octagon. His second title reign has started, and there will be multiple fighters gunning for him, including Moreno.
