UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Emmett followed in the footsteps of the promotion’s first PPV event in South East Asia (UFC 275) with vicious knockouts. The second middleweight bout on the card saw a tremendous display from both fighters and an equally interesting aftermath as Daniel Cormier got into a heated exchange inside the Octagon.

Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s protégé Deron Winn took on Phil Hawes in a middleweight contest.

Hawes showed how well he could perform when he put on a clinic against a durable Deron Winn. Referee Herb Dean stopped the bout in the second round after ‘No Hype’ landed a plethora of elbows and Winn couldn’t defend himself intelligently.

The official stoppage came at 4:25 in the second round. After the bout, there was a minor scene inside the Octagon as ‘DC’ walked in for a post-fight Octagon interview and Hawes had a few things to say to him.

Phil Hawes was not happy with Daniel Cormier

Daniel Cormier was at the desk calling the fights and also had the post-fight Octagon interview duties. After the win, Hawes had an exchange with the former UFC champion. MMA Journalist Aaron Bronsteter tweeted their conversation on Twitter.

“You picked the wrong pony,” Hawes yelled at the former UFC dual champion and training partner of his counterpart, Winn.

The ever-professional Cormier responded to Hawes with “I don’t pick fights” and Herb Dean had to step in to calm things down.

Apart from Hawes’ heated conversation with Daniel Cormier, he had an eye-catching performance that exhibited his ferocious style inside the Octagon.

The bout saw great resilience from Deron Winn and an impressive performance from Phil Hawes, who was relentless. Fans reacted to the crazy performance of both the fighters.

The exceptional performance marked the Sanford MMA athlete’s return to the win column. Hawes has now gotten his hand raised in 4 out of his five UFC bouts. His sole loss inside the Octagon came against Chris Curtis in his last bout.

With a win over Deron Winn, Hawes will look to stack a winning streak to move into the top 15 of the UFC middleweight rankings.
