Daniel Cormier and Ariel Helwani sat down and tried to figure out a way to get Conor McGregor on one of the fight cards before the year ends.

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier had initially agreed to fight outside the UFC and fight for charity. They had decided that all the proceeds from this event would be donated to charity. All that was left was to get the paperwork done to make it an official fight.

In the meantime, the UFC capitalized on this opportunity and contacted McGregor for their next available main event slot. Conor McGregor accepted the offer, but there seems to be just one hurdle.

McGregor wants the fight to happen before this year ends; he wants to fight Dustin Poirier in 2020. Pulling this off might take some effort from the UFC, as they’ve got fights and champions already in place for the events in November and December.

Helwani and Cormier tried to figure out a way to accommodate the McGregor vs Poirier fight in the two months left in this year.

Daniel Cormier said, “I wonder how it works business-wise. Like you said, Conor McGregor does big business every time he’s out there. Like I said before, get him on the fight if he wants to fight. There was a fight in November, I say put him on the fight for November and move those guys to the co-main event. That works!”

Cormier went on to say, “I also believe that come December 12 now, now it works, right? Amanda Nunes is the title fight, you only have one. Putting Conor McGregor in the November card now with 2 champions to share the pay-per-view revenue, it is going to be a massive bill.

“But December 12, you have one champion and it is Amanda. Amanda does pretty good for herself anyway, and then you don’t have to worry about splitting the pie much! But I’d let him fight, if he really wants to fight I’d let him fight!”

Cormier ended with a word of praise for McGregor for still agreeing to donate $500k to Dustin Poirier’s charity. He said, “Hats off to Conor for the donation because you don’t have to do that. You don’t have to give Dustin the 500 thousand.”

Do you think Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier should fight this year?
