UFC Welterweight Colby Covington went on Submission Radio and spoke out on the recent title fight cancellation at UFC 251. Kamaru Usman was slated to face-off against Gilbert Burns for the 170-pound strap in the headlining feature at Fight Island. The anticipated match-up was one of three title fights on the card.

However, news broke that challenger Gilbert Burns tested positive for COVID-19 along with his brother and a cornerman. The news came as a surprise to the MMA world as the fight is less than a week from being underway. Additionally, neither fighter boarded the chartered plane to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi

‘Chaos’ also touched upon his preparation if the fight against Kamaru Usman were to materialize on extremely short notice. It appears as though the shortened timeline does little in the way of affecting Covington.

“I’ve been preparing for this moment my whole entire life. The past seven months I’ve been calling what’s going to happen and I’m going to stay ready in case something like this does happen. I’m in the greatest shape of my life, I’ve had the greatest training camp. I feel healthy for the first time in a long time. I’m ready to go and I’m a professional.”

The UFC is reportedly in talks with Jorge Masvidal to salvage the Welterweight title bout. In light of these events, MMA fans will be at the edge of their seats in anticipation as the story develops further. Both Covington and Masvidal are highly viable options to slide in as a replacement for Gilbert Burns.
