After crossing a barrage of hurdles, Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal are all set to square off in the Octagon this weekend. The two have a lot of bad blood between them which was on display when they squared off following the official weigh-ins.

Weighing-in at the title limit of 170 pounds was the final hurdle for the fight to become official. Masvidal has taken the fight on just six days’ notice. Hence, he had to lose around twenty pounds to make weight. ‘Gamebred’ even employed the services of the towel while stepping on the scale. At the end of it all, he made sure that the headliner of UFC 251 is official at last.

Following the weigh-ins, it was time for the face-off between the fighters. From Amanda Ribas and Paige VanZant to Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski, the staredowns were fairly uneventful. However, Masvidal and Usman, as expected, had an air of tension surrounding them.

The champ Kamaru Usman remained quiet, but that wasn’t enough to stop Masvidal from flapping gums at the champ.

I’m gonna have fun with your a**. Show up,” Masvidal told Usman.

If UFC President Dana White is believed to be true, UFC 251 is receiving an unprecedented hype. Part of it is because it is taking place on the much-awaited Fight Island. Moreover, since most other live sports aren’t available right now, the UFC is seeing a spike in the attention that it is getting from fans and the media.

However, the biggest reason for the popularity of the event comes due to the pairing that headlines it. Jorge Masvidal has been an enigmatic figure since his meteoric rise last year. Add to that the genuine beef that he has with Kamaru Usman and you get the perfect recipe to sell the PPVs.

Right from the beginning of this year, the fans were hoping to see this matchup. A global pandemic and Masvidal’s issues with the UFC made it seem that the pairing wouldn’t happen this year. However, the unexpected nature of the times that we are currently living in played a substantial role in organizing the matchup.

Gilbert Burns, who was scheduled to fight Kamaru Usman, came down with COVID-19. To the delight of the fans, the UFC reached out to Masvidal, who gladly accepted the fight after getting a much better payday than the initial offer.
