UFC Boston is in the books now and we possibly have our next challenger for the light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. Dominick Reyes took on former UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman in the main event of UFC Boston.

Chris Weidman made his light heavyweight debut against the undefeated and ranked 4, Dominick Reyes and things did not go as planned for Weidman to say the least. Weidman did landed a couple of takedown to start the fight, but Reyes was too strong for him as he got back up easily. Reyes won the fight via knock out early in the round number one to secure the 12th win in his MMA career and probably a spot for the number one contender in the division.

After an impressive win over Weidman, Reyes called out the champion, Jon Jones which made sense since Jones has no challenger at the moment. However, Jon Jones seems unimpressed with the performance of Reyes as he said:

“Many have talk shit, all have fallen. you will do the same.”

Jon Jones is leaning towards the fight with the winner of Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic. Cormier will take on Miocic in a trilogy fight for the UFC heavyweight title. Although Cormier has already said that the fight with Stipe will mark the end of his MMA career, a third fight with Jon Jones at heavyweight does make sense for Daniel Cormier if he decides to hang around for one more fight after Stipe Miocic.

Jon jones said:

“I should just wait for the winner of DC and Stipe? Let these light heavies figure out who’s going to present the best challenge”

Jon Jones has been leaning towards his much-anticipated heavy weight debut for a meaningful period and rumors were he wants Stipe Miocic.

By the time this kid gets his confidence together, I’ll probably already be in the heavyweight division. I don’t need to wait till 2021 to start believing myself.” said Jones a few days earlier when asked about fighting Adesanya.

Now a move up to the heavyweight division seems inevitable for Jon Jones at the moment since he does not have any exciting fight in the 205 division at the moment. And a fight against the winner of Miocic vs Cormier for the heavyweight title does make sense for arguably the greatest combat sports athlete of all time.
