“Run It Back” – Tony Ferguson Calls Out Justin Gaethje for a Rematch

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson wants to fight Justin Gaethje again. However, there is a catch. “El Cucuy” laid down special conditions for a rematch.
It is safe to say that Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson played a major role in reviving live sports in the United States. Despite a global pandemic, the duo agreed to compete at UFC 249 on May 9.
Heading into the fight, Ferguson was on a twelve-fight win streak. Many expected him to make easy work of Gaethje. Nevertheless, “The Highlight” stunned the world when he outclassed Ferguson for 5 rounds straight.

By the fifth round, Ferguson’s face was almost unrecognizable. He took too much damage and left referee Herb Dean with no choice but to stop the bout. And award Gaethje the win, making him the interim lightweight champion.

It is highly unlikely that Ferguson will fight Gaethje next, as Gaethje will fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed belt in a few weeks.
Besides that, Ferguson has absorbed over 100 significant strikes on his head. Fighting too soon could be catastrophic for him. As of now, Ferguson might not be in the position to fight for the title. But a win or two over top contenders will put him back in the conversation.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see him fight for the title after Gaethje either. We have already seen top contenders—for example, Yoel Romero—receive a title shot despite coming off a loss.
