UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal does not like getting paid less than what he deserves.

After beating Nate Diaz and securing the BMF title at UFC 244, Jorge Masvidal was next in line to face off against the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Unfortunately for Jorge, he got involved in a contract dispute with the company.

As a result, the UFC brought in Gilbert Burns as a replacement. However, Burns tested positive for COVID-19, and Masvidal received the call again. The only difference was that things went according to Masvidal this time.

Jorge Masvidal wants his fair share of the pie

Masvidal believes that he might have complicated his relationship with the UFC during the negotiation. But he does not seem to care.

“If the relationship would have messed up or [got] better, it doesn’t matter because I’m speaking from the heart,” Jorge Masvidal told Ariel Helwani.

After Jon Jones, Masvidal was one of the biggest names that called out the UFC for low fighter pay.

“I don’t like Dana undercutting me by saying, ‘Yeah, Gilbert this and that, definitely deserves the fight’ when they promised me the fight before the Ben Askren fight. They told me, ‘If you beat Ben, you get the title shot’. Well, I did that and beat Nate [Diaz] and I still don’t get the next title shot?”

Furthermore, he revealed that he is not in shape to fight a wrestler like Ben Askren or a striker like Darren Till. But he said that he is in shape to fight a “bum.” The Cuban-American completely disregarded Usman’s skill set.

“If you’re asking me if I’m in shape, maybe not to fight Ben Askren. I’m not in Ben Askren shape because he’s a hell of a wrestler – or even Darren Till. But am I in shape for this bum I’m about to decapitate and baptize? Hell yeah.”

Usman is an elite-level wrestler, who puts a high pace on his opponents. He has been preparing for a five-round fight. Masvidal, on the other hand, did not have a proper training camp.

“Gamebred” stated that he has been going to the gym two or three times a week. For now, nobody knows how his cardio will hold up during the fight.
