The UFC is gearing up for its maiden Fight Island PPV and series of events. However, considering an unfortunate bar incident featuring Welterweight Mike Perry, the UFC has had to take time out and respond.  They addressed the situation and acknowledged that they are aware of what transpired. In this regard, they released a statement updating the MMA world.

As per a tweet by ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, the UFC statement read, 

“UFC is aware and troubled by the video that was released last night concerning Mike Perry. The conduct displayed by Perry is not reflective of that of our organization. Perry apologized for his behavior and acknowledged he was disappointed with himself that his actions may have reflected poorly on UFC. He further acknowledged that he believes he has some issues related to alcohol abuse and has informed UFC that he has committed to immediately seek professional treatment, including substance and behavioral counseling. At this time, UFC has informed Perry that he will not be offered a bout, and the parties have agreed to evaluate next steps for Perry following the completion of his treatment program.”

The incident seemingly stemmed from Mike Perry screaming as he walked out of a restaurant. Here he alleges and is indignant that someone touched him. Even as his friends tried to pacify him he snapped and laid out a man following a blink and you miss it scuffle. 

Following this as ‘Platinum’ sat outside the restaurant he called launched an expletive-laden tirade to his friend. This is because as per him, she wasn’t on his side.

The fighter attributed his troubles to alcohol and has agreed to seek professional treatment. This comes after fans criticized him for actions and urged the UFC to release him. 

It appears the UFC will not part ways with the fighter. However, he will undergo counseling and substance abuse sessions. Only following this, the Welterweight fighter who impressed one and all at UFC on ESPN 12 just 2 weeks back can resume his career. He had targeted Nate Diaz, but that certainly will not materialize anytime soon.
