Vladimir Putin Reaches Out to Khabib Nurmagomedov Following Death of His Father

The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has reached out to Khabib Nurmagomedov and his family to offer condolences following the death of his father.

The UFC lightweight champion lost his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. His father suffered a lengthy battle with the coronavirus. Though he held out greatly, he finally succumbed to the virus at the age of 57. This news was first reported by RT Sports.

His death was the result of a lengthy list of complications. Initially, the onset was thought of to be pneumonia and he refused treatment at the time. And eventually, the complications that stemmed from the virus weakened his heart, resulting in him suffering a heart attack just a year after undergoing bypass surgery.

This death has come out to show us how united the UFC family truly is. A lot of fighters and even former competitors of Khabib Nurmagomedov have extended their sincere condolences and support to the fighter and his family.

Among these well-wishers was also the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. According to a report by RT Sports, the Russian president called Khabib to offer his “deepest condolences” after the death of his father.

As per the report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the president reached out in an effort to console Khabib Nurmagomedov over the death of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. But this isn’t the first time these have been in contact.

Putin is very fond of Khabib Nurmagomedov and his family. He met with Khabib and his father after their successful title defense against Conor McGregor in 2018. Putin also made it a point to stay in contact with Khabib, even during the illness of his father.

His father had been battling COVID-19 since April and had only seen the deterioration of his condition. After a long-drawn battle, he passed on Friday night as reported. His father played a key role in the rise of Dagestani fighters on the world stage, with Khabib at the forefront.
