WATCH: Khabib Nurmagomedov And Family Pay Homage to the Late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov

Video footage captures UFC Lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov present at the funeral of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who recently passed away. The Russian coach and mentor died due to complications stemming from COVID-19 at the age of 57. His situation was being closely monitored and although reports stated him to be in critical condition, close associates expressed optimism for recovery.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Pays Homage

The undisputed 155-pound champion has yet to make a public comment following the demise of his father.’ The Eagle’ and other associates can be seen paying homage at a gathering.

Several fighters took to social media and paid tribute to Khabib’s father. The entire MMA community joined hands in showing their respect for Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. In light of the current landscape of fight promotion, he remained true to his rooted beliefs and principles.

Throwback: Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov speaks out

Most famously he forgave Conor McGregor for his barrage of harsh words against his name and his family. Building up to UFC 229, McGregor fired on all cylinders against his opponent and his entire team and family. Many believed that ‘The Notorious One’ has crossed certain professional lines with his comments.

Even after said comments, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov famously invited the former two-division champion to Dagestan. He maintained that he preferred to leave all prior occurrences in the past.

“Today I invited Conor to our home. Yes, I made this statement. I invited him as a guest. He can visit Dagestan why not. It’s all in the past, we should not stop there, life goes on. Our religion should show grace not only in words but also in deeds. If he comes you will see that he will be our dear guest.”

Chiefly these statements give an insight into the type of leader and father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was. The impact of his loss will be felt not just by his family, but also by the MMA community as a whole.

The 28-0 fighter was reportedly expected to unify the 155-pound strap against Justin Gaethje in September. Any plans for a speedy return to action seem highly unlikely at this junction in time.
