Conor McGregor has taken the idea of fighting Anderson Silva very seriously, it seems. After accepting his challenge, Conor has rolled out two more tweets to solidify his stance of fighting “The Spider.”

Anderson had earlier laid out a challenge for McGregor. The former Middleweight champ offered a fight to the Irish icon. Since there is a significant gap in the weight classes of the two fighters, Silva was willing to meet McGregor mid way at 176-pounds. Conor has had victories at 170-pounds while Silva spent most of his career fighting at 185-pounds. Hence, the compromise seemed the only possible way to pull off the fight.

However, McGregor has a love for exploring uncharted territories. From being the first double champ to moving over to boxing, it seems McGregor has a knack for pulling off what his fans consider next to impossible. However, this time around, McGregor may have stretched his limits a little too much.

Conor has competed at Welterweight, but that has been against fighters like him who have moved up a weight class. McGregor would have a significant size disadvantage against established welterweights such as Kamaru Usman or Jorge Masvidal. That difference will be even more compounded against Anderson Silva.

In the hypothetical scenario that McGregor does move up to Middleweight, he compared himself to former UFC fighter Rousimar Palhares. The Brazilian Palahares was relatively very short for the Middleweight division. Regardless, he was regarded as one of the best naturally gifted grapplers in the division.

However, his stint with the UFC met with an unfortunate end after he was cut from the organization for not leaving an opponent out of submission even after he had tapped.

McGregor and Silva have always shown mutual respect and admiration for each other. In his recent GOAT list, McGregor placed Silva on the top. Even the former Middleweight champ has often heaped praise on Conor. However, one has to agree that Silva is way out of his prime. Fighting more relevant opponents makes a lot of sense for Conor McGregor at this stage of his career.
