Amid the coronavirus pandemic, WWE has released several superstars and producers including the likes of Kurt Angle, Zack Ryder, Drake Maverick, Rusev, etc. And it seems the former UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez has joined the list. The 37-year-old signed a multi-year deal with WWE last year. The rematch with Brock Lesnar was scheduled at Crown Jewel in Saudi. The first encounter between Lesnar and Velasquez ended with the Mexican knocking out Lesnar effortlessly. However, the rematch in the WWE ring went in the favor of Lesnar who finished the fight in just 88 seconds. Though Velasquez was hopeful for a trilogy fight with Brock Lesnar nothing has been planned by WWE to make that happen. Further, during his time with the company, Lesnar competed with a lot of wrestlers including <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/the-undertaker/">The Undertaker</a>, Hulk Hogan, <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/john-cena">John Cena</a>, Kurt Angle, and many others. In a surprising turn of events in 2004, the superstar decided to put a halt on his wrestling career to pursue his passion for football. He was then called up for trials. However, a short while before the trials, Lesnar met with a big motorcycle accident, which injured him badly. Lesnar was released from the Minnesota Vikings just half a season after he had joined.

Following his very short stint in the NFL, Brock decided to join the Japan-based wrestling promotion named New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). He was quick to make an impact there also as he defeated Kazuyuki Fujita and Masahiro Chono to win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. In 2007, the star wrestler lost to Kurt Angle and thus decided to take a break from wrestling till 2012.

The pair was again set to face each other at the Day 1 event, but Reigns had to pull out of the match. Lesnar was then added to the Raw WWE Championship match in which he defeated Lashley, Rollins, Kevin Owens, and defending champion Big E. 'The Beast Incarnated' then faced Lashley at the Royal Rumble event and lost his title after interference from Reigns.
