Conor McGregor can’t beat real welterweights: Colby Covington
Although Covington finds the fight with Conor interesting he belives Conor will not accept the fight. He also mocked Conor by saying that he can not beat a real welterweight. Covington stated:
It’s interesting. But I am here to prove to the people that I am the best in the world. Con Man McGregor, he is a little guy. He should be fighting in little featherweight with the little midgets. Cause that’s the only people he could beat. He ain’t beating no real welterweights. He is not gonna fight me, to be honest.

And Conor had trouble with wrestlers such as Chad Mendes, and Khabib Nurmagomedov. So Conor will have some adversities to overcome if he takes on Covington who is bigger than him too at 170.

Besides that, considering Nate Diaz with a 50-50 record can beat Conor McGregor, Colby Covington feels very confident that he would dominate Conor both in striking and grappling. Covington explained:
“You(Conor) got beat up by Nate Diaz. That guy is complete Jobber. That guy is a Stockton soyboy. Nate Diaz is a 50-50 fighter with like 15-20 losses. And you got melted by him. So you can only imagine what happens when Raw American steel twisted sex appeal comes at you”

Conor McGregor is likely to fight for the lightweight title next. However, if Khabib wins the fight against Ferguson then Conor can’t fight for the title until maybe Septemeber. Because Khabib will take time off from the sport due to Ramadan.
In that case, Conor vs Colby makes sense. Colby came very close to beat the welterweight champion. And if Conor can beat Colby then that will certainly put him next in the line for the welterweight title. It would be intriguing to see whether Conor responds to Colby’s remarks.
