At the 2020 US Open, the world saw an incredible comeback by Tsvetana Pironkova. The Bulgarian, who was returning after a long break due to pregnancy, played some amazing tennis. She beat top players like Garbine Muguruza and made it to the quarter-finals for the very first time.

There, she faced  23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and she nearly beat her. She won the first set and had a break in the second. However, the American came back ended up winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. This was disappointing for Pironkova but it was a great run nonetheless.

The Bulgarian went on to play the French Open where she sadly lost in the third round. That was her last event in 2020 and now, she is gearing up for the 2021 tennis season.
