US Open Quarter-Finalist Tsvetana Pironkova Reportedly Hesitant About Playing Australian Open 2021

At the 2020 US Open, the world saw an incredible comeback by Tsvetana Pironkova. The Bulgarian, who was returning after a long break due to pregnancy, played some amazing tennis. She beat top players like Garbine Muguruza and made it to the quarter-finals for the very first time.
There, she faced 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and she nearly beat her. She won the first set and had a break in the second. However, the American came back ended up winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. This was disappointing for Pironkova but it was a great run nonetheless.
The Bulgarian went on to play the French Open where she sadly lost in the third round. That was her last event in 2020 and now, she is gearing up for the 2021 tennis season.

Tsvetana Pironkova On Playing Australian Open 2021
The Australian Open is a Grand Slam event which is why every player wants to play it. However, this time, there are a lot of protocols in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. One of those is quarantine and that is what is worrying Pironkova.

Anyone traveling into Australia has to undergo a mandatory quarantine for 2 weeks. This will not work for tennis players as they cannot practice during that time which will affect their performance.

The chairman of the event is trying to relax these strict quarantine measures for players. However, nothing is official is yet and that is what Tsvetana is waiting for.
Once the quarantine rules are announced, she will make her decision on whether to play the Australian Open. She will most likely play the event and let’s hope that she can win her first-ever Grand Slam when it begins on January 18th.
