After the disappointment at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, Mikaela Shiffrin is back with a bang. She wins the downhill race in the penultimate season ender of Alpine skiing. Hence, it is just a remarkable comeback for the skier who had a poor Winter Olympics. Looking to win her fourth World Cup and tie Lindsey Vonn, Shiffrin has made the perfect start to the season ended in France.

With a narrow 56 point lead, she led the reigning Olympic gold medalist as she dominated the competition from start to finish.
Mikaela Shiffrin wins World Cup
It is just the stuff of dreams for Shiffrin. Significantly, she finished with a time of 1:27.00 while the second place went to Christine Scheyer. With a differential of +10, Shiffrin took a commanding lead in the downhill race. Likewise, the second place is tied between Scheyer and Joana Haehlen of Austria. As for Petra Vlohva, she had a disappointing end to the race after finishing 16th. With this victory, Shiffrin has taken a commanding lead in the World Cup standings.

She has 1345 points right now as Vlhova is in second with 1189. Moreover, there is a gap of 156 points between the two athletes. Mathematically, Vlhova can take the lead with three more events to go. With the slalom and giant slalom competitions coming in, these would be in favor of the Olympic gold medalist who had a sensational Olympics. But, the setback she faced during this event can help her close the Alpine skiing title in the next round.

The sensational Shiffrin is on her way to earning her fourth World Cup title. She won the title three consecutive times from 2017 to 2019. With Lindsey Vonn ahead of her, she can tie the record of the most number of World Cup victories after this season. Leading these two women is Austria’s Annemarie Moser-Pröll has six titles to her name. On the other hand, Shiffrin claimed her 74th World Cup victory, and she is heading to the record books.
