If not for Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake would have won many medals in his career. After Bolt made a false start during the 2011 World Championships, Blake went ahead and won the race. The talented Jamaican won the silver medal for both 100 and 200-meters at the 2012 London Olympics. He became the youngest 100-meter champion ever during those Championships in 2011.

Now, he focuses on another potential prospect who has the potential to be even great. When Erriyon Knighton broke Bolt’s under-18 200-meters world record, the athletics fraternity took notice. Blake spoke about him in a recent interview.

Yohan Blake praises Erriyon Knighton

The talented sprinter gave a resounding shock to most in attendance during the American Track League meet in Jacksonville. He broke Bolt’s famous 200-meters record time of 20.13 set in 2003 while clocking a time of 20.11 seconds during the race. Hence, this put him on the map as Yohan Blake talked about the talented sprinter and the prospects of him becoming a potential superstar. Precis, Erriyon Knighton is one to watch.

“He’s not just some top-end speed, he has a really good top-end speed, and it was really impressive. Well, I run with him, I ran with him earlier this year, and my glimpse over the shoulder and he was there and I said wow. In clear mountain, I said wow this guy got talent. I kept on watching him and I saw how he progressed and even beat up most of these big guys. He’s young and to make it to the Olympics at such a young age, I think it is going to be interesting, next year,” said Blake.

He became the youngest athlete since 1964, to take part in the Olympics. Finishing fourth in the race speaks volumes of his talent at a very young age. Knighton loved the experience he received and looks to compete in a bid to become the best. However, Knighton downplayed his comparisons to Usain Bolt in the interview, thereafter.

“I don’t know. Only time will tell,” said Knighton.

The talented sprinter is the favorite heading to the next athletics season. Although it would be tough with compatriot Fred Kerley looking good, Knighton will be the one to watch as he has the potential to break Blake’s record of being the youngest World Champion. Will he do it?
