Even after almost two months, the lockout in Major League Baseball is still on. Recently, the players’ union and the owners had a couple of meetings this week. Despite that, there is no agreement between the two parties.
And with the lockout going on, no teams can negotiate a deal with any free agents during this time. Currently, there are 141 big-league free agents in the MLB market. And all of them are waiting for the lockout to end to negotiate their new contracts.
From Carlos Correa to Clayton Kershaw, there are some top players who are free agents in Major League Baseball. And considering their talent and experience, any team would want them on their side. But for that, they have to pay a large amount of money too.

New York Mets to not go for big names
Unlike every other MLB side, the New York Mets are not going to sign big names like Carlos Correa or Kris Bryant. Instead, they are looking for a rebuild this season. As per SNY, the Mets had already agreed on terms with free agents Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar before the lockout. The Mets are still on their stand to not add any more expensive signings to their side.

However, the Mets general manager, Billy Eppler, and team manager, Buck Showalter, are not done with the signings. The Mets management is still looking for a starting pitcher. With free-agent Yusei Kikuchi available on the market, there is a possibility that he might sign for the Mets.
The Mets have already spent over $250 million in this season, but team owner, Steven Cohen, is in no mood to slow down as he trusts Eppler’s vision to build a balanced and competitive side. According to SNY, the Mets are also willing to let go of players like Jeff McNeil, J.D. Davis, and Dominic Smith. The Mets are waiting to listen to their trade offers.
