Additionally, he donated all his earnings from his term as governor to charitable causes. Schwarzenegger frequently uses his $450 million net worth for philanthropy, one of his main focuses being environmentalism.

The bodybuilding legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger, sends out a newsletter to his subscribers to stay connected and build a community. This month, the publication titled “My Unreasonable Birthday Goals” outlined his plans for the year. Much like his New Year’s resolutions, he made promises of betterment, one being fighting pollution.

When Schwarzenegger served as the governor of California, he worked to pass the Global Warming Solutions Act to cut emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. He also signed onto the Low Carbon Fuel Standard and the Million Solar Roofs Initiative. He believes that clear air will always be a fundamental need, and rising pollution levels gravely threaten the environment.

The seven-time Mr. Olympia champion also says, “But I don’t actually give a shit if you believe in climate change. I do, but whether we agree on that or not, it doesn’t matter to me.” Schwarzenegger claims that even if people can ignore climate change, the harmful effects of pollution on public health remain indisputable.

“No one can deny that fossil fuels cause pollution. Like I said years ago, if anyone wants to deny the harms of pollution, they should be willing to spend a few hours in a sealed garage with a running gas-powered car,” he continued.

The Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative

For nearly 20 years, Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed onto many policies and projects to fight climate change. When he served as the governor of California, he worked on several policies to counter climate change. But it didn’t end there. After leaving office, he continued his efforts to engage government authorities in climate control through the Schwarzenegger Institute at the University of Southern California.

Eventually, he established “The Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative,” and, together with Monika Langthaler, launched the annual Austrian World Summit. This year, the 6th Austrian World Summit took place in June in Vienna, marking 30 years since 154 states agreed upon an international environmental treaty. The treaty aims to combat “dangerous human interference with the climate system”. And it was signed at the “Earth Summit” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Schwarzenegger joined through a video message, giving a speech about the way rising pollution levels have affected people’s lives. He told the tale of a 9-year-old girl, Ella. In the last two years of her life, she was hospitalized 30 times for asthma attacks. Subsequently, she became the first person whose death certificate states the cause of death as pollution. Schwarzenegger calls for greater action to combat climate change.
