When Arnold was provided with an offer to act in a film called ‘Terminator’, anyone, including him, wasn’t sure how it will end. In 2019, Arnold Schwarzenegger opened up about how did he feel about the movie, before its release and post-release.

Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t have many expectations before he saw it
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s doubt about the movie’s outcome wasn’t because of a weak script or how the schedule went. It was because of a movie called ‘Exterminator’ which was released in 1980. The Exterminator had a good earning span and earned $4,369,703 worldwide. And the doubt was about whether the audience will misjudge their movie like some copy of ‘Exterminator’.

In the 2019 interview, Arnold said, “When I was hired to do ‘Terminator’, I really think, I mean the day maybe the studio executives that were around then and various different people would tell you differently because they always say ‘I told you so’ type of thing. But the reality was I think they treated it as like a B movie, as a B action movie.
Arnold continued, “Here’s just another one because the year before came out ‘Exterminator’, now it was ‘Terminator’. What else is gonna be next, type of thing, right?”
It didn’t take long for Arnold to change his opinion
Arnold had put in an incredible amount of hard work for working in The Terminator. And the fear of failure in the film made him doubt it for some time. But when the film director, James Cameron, showed him some of the footage from the movie, Arnold became pretty sure that it was going to be a massive hit.

Arnold said, “But when I shot the film and Jim Cameron showed me some of the footage, and then when he had like 20 minutes edited and I saw the film, I said to myself, ‘wait a minute, this is really intense, this is wild.’ I mean I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like this before. The way it was shot, the way it was lit, the way it was directed, everything, the way it was written. It was just really very, very special.”

Indeed, everybody knows now what a blockbuster The Terminator was. The film collected a massive $780,190,31 worldwide collection. And that was an extremely huge earning for a film at that time. This was the turning point for Arnold in his movie career. And after this movie, which he was unsure about, he became a global action star.
