Phil Heath calls out the rookie bodybuilders on drug abuse
In 2023, Phil Heath spoke up about an issue that is slowly but surely spreading through the bodybuilding world. It is no news that some bodybuilders use steroids to prepare themselves for competitions while others stick to a natural diet. However, in recent times, the dependency on drugs has increased immensely.
Bringing the issue to light Heath said that while preparing for the contest some bodybuilders cannot help themselves but inject before the show. “We all know this because they don’t have the confidence of pulling that stuff out weeks before because in their mind — I hate to say it, but they’re an abuser of drugs. If they stop, they’re going to shrink,” Heath continued.

Talking about the effect of those drugs on the body, Phil Heath shared that excessive use thickens the skin. If the person shrinks after stopping the intake, it proves that his muscles were never built. This further indicates that whatever mass was visible was a result of the body’s bad inflammatory response. Furthermore, this could hamper the proper functioning of the organs and dry them out. Heath further added that this was also the reason why he never excessively used the PEDs.
