“I Took a Knife and…”: Legendary Martial Artist Jackie Chan Once Lost His Temper at a Director Who Insulted His Mother

In the world of martial arts, Jackie Chan doesn’t need any introduction. He has expertise not only in martial arts but also in acting. Chan’s background in martial arts also helped him get into action movies. His name is at the top of pop culture in both the east and the west. The whole world knows Jackie for his extreme stunts.

In an interview, Jackie Chan talked about a situation that he didn’t even expect. He spoke about a disagreement between him and a director. But the heat escalated so quickly that even a guy like Jackie would lose his temper.

He got on Jackie’s nerves

Usually, Jackie Chan is a very calm person, but the way the director talked to him made him lose his temper.

“I was scolded so much, and he even dragged my ancestors in,” Jackie said and continued, “So I took a knife and wanted to go and cut the director.” It wouldn’t have been a wise decision for Jackie to do what he mentioned.

“I said that he can scold me as much as he wants, but don’t insult my mother,” Jackie said and continued, “Sammo grabbed hold of me and said, ‘Are you crazy?’” 

During that time, Jackie was working with Hong Kong actor Sammo Hung. He approached Jackie during his outburst and stopped him.

Jackie’s career has been through a lot of ups and downs. It wasn’t always easy for the pinnacle of pop to be in such a prestigious position without putting in the effort.

Criticism according to Jackie Chan

Back in his early acting days, Jackie wasn’t much aware of how to take criticism. He used to think of it as a bad thing back then.

In the same interview, Jackie talked about how previously, in newspapers, they used to criticize him. He eventually gets sad about it, as the star wasn’t aware of how criticism works. He even talked about how it would hover in his mind for a day or a month or even a year.

Later on, Jackie didn’t think much about criticism and learned to take them as feedback and utilize it properly. His advice was to ignore what other people said. Great words from the mouth of a great actor and martial artist indeed.
