Babe Ruth is a legend of the game. His flair and sheer ability to knock it out of the park in the early part of his career changed baseball and made the game more exciting. And there remain few who had the pleasure of seeing him from behind home plate at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Yankees recently came across a viral video on the internet of a man who saw the Sultan of Swat. Live. The senior speaks about how Babe Ruth would point his bat at a spot, and then just hit it there, with ease and brilliance.

The senior, a lifelong New York Yankees fan, claims to not being “too excitable”. But even he couldn’t hold back a smile recounting the story of when Babe Ruth made his way to the diamond. He notes how Babe had a knack for calling where he would hit his next home run and actually deliver.

“He would take his bat out like that,” the fan recounts.“That’s where I’m going to hit it.” And proceed to deposit into the stands.

The video goes on to have the Yankees share some exclusive merchandise with the lifelong fan. Receiving a full Yankees jersey with Babe Ruth’s iconic 3 on the back, the man seemed pleasantly puzzled. “Where am I gonna wear it?” he asked rhetorically.

While he came to the conclusion that he could probably wear the jersey at breakfast, maybe he could take a trip out wearing it. The Bronx would certainly see him get some knowing nods of approval if he took it out for a stroll.

Babe Ruth was undoubtedly one of the most influential people in baseball history. His inclusion in the Yankees made the game significantly more about power-hitting than strategy as before.

And perhaps no shot is more iconic than the Home Run Ruth hit during the 1932 World Series against the Chicago Cubs.

The count in the 5th innings was down 2 balls and 2 strikes for the Babe. In the thick of it, Ruth seemed to point two fingers toward center field. He then proceeded to deposit the pitch deep into the center-field stand. The shot became iconic, while the man, more so.

While Ruth was definitely one to set a hitting standard, he was also the first truly unanimous star to emerge from baseball, and perhaps that’s why the Hall of Famer enjoys a special place in all our hearts, including the grateful Yankees fan who can be seen smiling at the end of the video.
