“Just Executed Some Better Breaking Balls”- Gerrit Cole Opens Up on His Rough Start and Opening Day Win Over Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees have kicked off their 2022 campaign in style. Notably, The Bron Bombers crashed their arch-rival Boston Red Sox in their opening day game in the Bronx. However, despite their win over the Red Sox, Gerrit Cole failed to impress in the opening day game.

The Pinstripes won their opening day game, but the Yankees’ fans reminded Cole of his last season’s game against the Red Sox. Notably, right from the start, when Cole started pitching, the Yankees fans started booing him and did it throughout the game.

After the game, Gerrit Cole admitted that the pitches were not up to the mark.

Gerrit Cole is a terrific pitcher, not even a shadow of a doubt about that. But he does not have an outstanding record against the Red Sox. And, once again, Cole failed to make an impression against the Red Sox.

After the game, Cole addressed the media and admitted that he was not at his best level. “Obviously, the first four pitches were not really competitive. And honestly got burned on a couple of pretty good pitches…,” Gerrit Cole said.

But the Yankees batters outclassed the Red Sox pitchers and won the game. DJ LeMahieu and Josh Donaldson were in their beast mode and saved the Yankees from humiliation in their home stadium.

And even Cole started pitching well after a rough start. At once, the Red Sox were leading the Yankees 3-0. But, the Yankees changed their gear in the last hour of the game and ended up winning the game 6-5.

“Fortunately, we were able to settle in after that, and give us a chance to win… We Just executed some better breaking balls down on the zone. And we were able to gotta go ahead of a lot of guys,” added Cole.

Well, the season has just started, and given their experience, no one can rule the Yankees out of the game, period.
