Notably, with the lockout in force, no players can negotiate their contract with any team. And as soon as the lockout will end, free agents and players who are in their last year of the contract will be open to negotiating their new deal. Now there are rumors that the New York Mets star pitcher Jacob deGrom might leave the MLB side after the 2022 season.

Ever since his debut in MLB, Jacob deGrom has played only for the New York Mets. But this time, it is possible that the star pitcher might switch his MLB side. Notably, after the 2022 season, deGrom’s contract with the Mets will expire and he will enter into his free agency.

But, instead of continuing with the Mets, deGrom has decided to leave the team after 8 long years. And if reports are to be believed, the Mets are also not interested in carrying on with the pitcher.
New York Mets Not Done in Assembling Star-Studded Pitcher Rotation
As per Andy Martino of SNY TV, the Mets star has decided an opt out after the 2022 season. Considering his health, the Mets have no reason to invest in a pitcher who turns 34 in June and missed the second half of the 2021 season with injuries.

While, with a year left in his contract, deGrom also has a chance to prove himself as one of the best pitchers in the league. If things go deGrom’s way, then he might actually end up receiving lucrative deals from other teams.

Notably, Right before the lockout, the Mets had signed Max Scherzer, Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar into the squad. Scherzer signed a three-year contract worth $130 million with the Mets.

New York Mets hire Buck Showalter
Last year in December, the Mets also hired former Orioles manager, Buck Showalter, as the replacement of Luis Rojas. Showalter has also signed a three-year deal with the Mets. The veteran manager has the experience of managing over 3,000 big league games in his 20-year career.
