“Jamaica Is My Country”: Despite Multi-Million Scam, Usain Bolt Defends His Nation

Former Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt indeed had a very convulsing start to the year 2023. He fell prey and lost nearly $13 million to Kingston-based Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) as part of a scam. Thunderbolt’s huge financial loss made the sports world go bonkers, and eventually, his fan following started blaming the infrastructure of his country.

His fans were skeptical about whether the Jamaican government will be able to bring the money back. However, the sprinter, who fired his manager recently, does not feel the same way and stands with his country. Though he is not in a very comfortable situation, Bolt still defends his nation.

The 36-year-old track and field athlete lost almost all of his hard-earned savings to a local private investment firm. Bolt is going through his financial lows and is seeking help to overcome this situation. Though sports fans commented on how Jamaica has failed to hold the trust of its people, the Olympic gold medalist defends his nation. As per The Wahington Post, in a recent media appearance, Bolt shared, “As you all know. I’ve been going through a tough week, a few tough weeks.” In addition, he showed support and said, “No matter what’s going on right now, Jamaica is my country. That will never change.”

After a primary assessment, his attorneys revealed that Bolt’s $12.8 million dwindled to a bank balance of $12,000 only. But is he broke? The Olympian steps in to answer, “I’m not broke, but it’s definitely put a damper on me…it was for my future. Everybody knows I have three kids. I’m still looking out for my parents, and I still want to live very well.” His ex-financial manager made a statement previously and informed that the attorneys have granted ten days’ time to the investment firm to return the money, failure of which would cost them to face legal action. Notably, the Jamaican athlete dismissed his manager a few days back.

Bolt has fired his manager

On Friday, Bolt revealed that he fired his business manager and also mentioned that the split happened not in a friendly way. In addition, he also revealed that his lawyers are seeking help from the FBI and other international agencies to get a hold of the amount. Previously, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness confirmed that the misdeed of the company is not bailable. “The government will not socialize any debt, and we will not socialize the failure of our banks”, he declared.

Evidently, the sprinter is not alone in the trap. Several others have suffered dealing with SSL in the past. The company, on the other hand, has put the blame on the shoulders of a former employee and disclosed their speculations. Disappointed, the sprinter shared, “Everybody’s confused. … I’m as confused as the public.”
