“As Real and Raw as You Can.”: After 11 Championships and 40 Years of Surfing, Kelly Slater Finally Spilled the Tea on Success Formula

Starting at a very young age, Kelly Slater became arguably one of the greatest surfers of all time. It has been 40 years since Slater etched his name in the history of the sport of surfing. Being a sport close to nature, surfing requires conscious expertise and sheer flexibility. The 11-time World Champion boasts all of the necessary skills and more. Moreover, he still finds the zeal to ride his surfboard every day.

However, what is the driving force behind Slater’s youthfulness even at the age of 50? Last year, the pro surfer, in an interview, revealed the secret behind the everlasting energy that made him compete even at this age. Notably, the legend attributed his diet to his sprightly nature. Kelly Slater believed good food produces good life

While giving an interview to GQ Sports in 2022, Slater emphasized that he logged every nook and cranny of his food habits. As he explained his ways to get rid of food he was allergic to, he also talked about how he followed a blood-type-based diet throughout. However, when asked about his favorite breakfast, the world champ couldn’t help sharing, “My favorite breakfast is just making a big healthy smoothie, some fresh fruit, some protein powders, and some little health remedies that I throw in there.”

Moreover, Slater also revealed how he used to start his day with a glass of warm water including lemon and ginger. Followed by some fruit, the surfer would earlier have eggs or any protein before eventually going vegan. The Hawaiian further shared his intake of plant-based supplements on a daily basis.

Slater is a believer in taking organic food as he explained, “You’re just eating a rock: Your body didn’t really know how to use it and you just poop it out, so it’s important to try to get plant-derived mineral supplements, and then just get as close to nature as possible. You know, as real and raw as you can.” 

However, according to his blood type (A), it’s always great to infuse a plant-based diet into his daily intake.

Slater chose to be vegan

Veganism has grown increasingly popular, and many sports personalities have adopted an alternate diet. Moreover, scientific evidence has shown how plant-based diets are beneficial. It not only improves cardiovascular health and the digestion system but also increases energy.

Slater, who had never tried veganism, decided to live on a plant-based diet last year. Supposedly, it increased his functionality and digestion. Moreover, he feels blessed to infuse a variety of food choices into his daily diet.
