Kelly Slater needs no introduction to the contemporary world of surfing. Slater, who is also refereed as the “GOAT of surfing,” has been dominating the surfing scene since he was just 20. Currently, the legend is 50 and is still going strong. In his significant surfing career, he has had 11 World Surf League (WSL) titles and 55 event victories.

In an interview back in 2018, Slater revealed his favorite place in the world. Unsurprisingly, the surfing legend did choose a place near the ocean. He also discussed that when he was a child, he always wanted to go to that place.

The surfer was lucky enough to win the surf contest back when he was just 12 years old.

“I went for the amateur championships and won,” Slater said and continued, “I made a bunch of lifelong friends who I’m still really close with today.” It looks like the pro surfer had socialized a lot when he was a kid, making a lot of lifelong friends in Hawaii.

“If you want to learn, go to Waikiki beach, get longboards and meet the beach boys who carry on the surfing tradition,” Slater said.

Surfing is like a tradition in Hawaii, which was also the reason why Slater loved the place.
